Demons are attacking people in the world and feeding on fear, and the old powers used to stop them aren't working any longer. And so the HMAA creates the Kyofurangers as a way to fight back against them. The person in charge of the organization attempted to use soldiers, but it didn't work. At all. As Miss Craven found out, in order to properly use the powers and fight the modern version of the Demons you needed something soldiers didn't have. The soldiers didn’t know movies well enough. The six morphers were given to people who knew horror movies (and other kinds of film) like the back of their hand. Well five, but Red suggested that the prototype morpher just get used anyway so there are six out of the starting gate. The team is based out of Houston, Texas but has been known to move around the country.
The team transforms using a wrist brace called the Scream Camera. It takes the form of a gray square that looks like a scaled down projector. They activate it by using the voice command “Action! *insert color here*!” The camera projects colored light back at the wearer while film wraps around them to form their suit. They would dissipate both with a gesture and have been transformed. When the rangers detransform the suit loses all color and fades out. The Scream Camera can also be used as a videophone through strategically placed cameras and projectors on the device.
The suits are mainly one color (the individual, natch). There are gray spots from film-like cuffs on the gloves, boots, and the belt. The belts have a buckle in the shape of a film canister. The chest is designed to resemble a belted coat. The back of the suit has a silhouette of the ranger’s Scream Zord, with a smaller design on the front. The pants are black. The helmets resemble the helmets of Gaoranger, though not as colorful. The visors are individual, like usual. Each ranger has an animal motif based on their Fear Zord (detailed below). The suits are all equipped with heads-up display and enhance the physical capabilities of the user. The visors of the main six are unique in that they resemble the lenses of old 3D glasses. The left half of the visor is red and the right is cyan.
Holstered on the each ranger’s suit is their sidearm, called the Blockbuster. The Blockbuster is a two mode weapon, the Slasher Mode knife and the Sniper Mode pistol. Each of the six also has an individual weapon based out of a horror movie called a Fear Arm. They are Reds Fear Saber, Blues Fear Cross(bow), Greens Fear Ax, Blacks Fear Lance, Yellows Fear Smasher (bat), and Pinks Fear Glove (Kruger claw). The Blockbusters have attacks similar to Final Waves from Gokaiger called Halloween Havoc – Samhain Slash for the Slasher Mode (a stabbing attack with the knife covered in fire) and Spirit Shot for the Sniper Mode (a ball of fire shot from the pistol).
The first mecha is made from the six zords that the rangers’ suits are based on, referred to as Scream Zords. Each of the animals was prominent in a horror movie. The animals are Red’s Wolf (The Howling), Blue’s Shark (Jaws), Green’s Crocodile (Lake Placid), Black’s Raven (The Birds), Yellow’s Bear (Bear), and Pink’s Panther (Cat People). It is called the Horror Magazord. The Crocadile forms the legs of the mecha as well as a sword with the tail. The Bear folds it legs in and acts as the torso, with the Wolf on top of it to form the head, shoulders, and similar adjoining bits. The Shark and Panther form the left and right arms respectively. As the Raven Scream Zord (and it’s user) were originally intended to be added later, it only adds onto the back as wings and a helmet add on. This is mode is referred to as Action Horror Megazord.
