"Hm?" Claudia asked, before hearing the sounds. "That clever bastard..." She muttered, but it never went through her head to try and get to any sort of safety.

Suddenly, from all of the shelves flew "books" that were actually facades, hiding straps and bindings, all of which flew straight for Claudia before Kakeru could even blink.

Claudia saw them coming and barely had time to react before being hit en masse by the binding straps. She toppled over a moment later, almost completely mummified in leather. The only part not hidden by leather was her head from the nose upward. She immediately began squirming and mumbling.

Popping back to his feet, Kakeru noticed that a few of the books remained on the shelves, and surmised that these must be the real books of the Marquis. Taking a moment, and leaving Claudia indisposed, he walked around the shelves, carefully removing them and stacking them in his off hand, before bringing the stack over to a table nearby Claudia.

Claudia mumbled at him loudly and angrily, trying to squirm towards him but enjoying little success. She bucked and writhed on the floor, but the leather would not give.

As he sat the stack down, he pulled back out the same knife, walking over to Claudia as he did. When he reached her side, he knelt down, and carefully sliced only the straps, and finished by, once again, removing the gag.

"Good to know the books are more important than your damn partner." Claudia muttered angrily, standing and ready to smack him, actually cocking her hand back for a backhand.

Kakeru raised up his hand, holding out a single finger. "Most traps wont trigger whilst another one is active. I wanted to reduce the chances of setting off another one whilst I collected the books. Or did you want priceless ancient tomes burning up or being shredded or the like?" He said, a bit snippily. He rarely got very serious, but when it came to books, especially old and rare ones, he was Spartan in the care of them.

"Based on the nature of the traps that I've fallen into, if I were to trigger another trap, it wouldn't start a fire. The books were completely fine." Claudia replied. "Besides, you could have at least freed me first."

"Well, I'm sorry. Now then, let's take a look at these tomes. One might have some clues." He said rather flippantly, resheathing the knife and walking over to the books.

"Clues about what?" Claudia said, picking up one that appeared to be a journal of some sort. She began reading it, having a fairly decent knowledge of French due to her armor.

"The layout of the manor. Possible traps. The Marquis' little hobbies. Things of that sort." He said, cracking open two books at once and very skillfully reading both at once.

"I think all of history knows about the Marquis's little habits. As for other things, there seems to be some mention here of a dress and an amulet." Claudia said. "He seems to have enchanted them somehow, so those look like our Artifacts."

"History knows only what he let them know. Every man has his secrets, and his skeletons. And the Marquis was the type to keep a log of them." He continued to read, sighing as he shut both of them and set them down. "A narrative of the Holy Roman Empire's influence on sexuality, and a guide to, as the Marquis put it, 'Intuitive Intimacy'" He shuddered, as he noticed one more unopened book. As he picked it up, he noticed odd carvings in the leather, and ran his hand across them.

"Well, we need to go get those Artifacts." Claudia said, laying the diary on the floor. It contained a diagram on the manor, with three floors aboveground and two levels of basements. "The dress is right above us."
