Okay! So this is our thread to discuss Doctor Who. There's going to be unmarked spoilers so if you don't want to risk ruining something then don't look! Back on topic: Asylum Of The Daleks was, in my opinion, the best Dalek episode since ... um ... Dalek. It was really well done, a few nice call backs to older series (Dalek Robotmen, as well as the multitude of props dating back to William Hartnell's run). I love Oswin, I really hope that Jenna-Louise Coleman acts "Clara" like this ... or Oswin ... I'm not sure who she's gonna be xD. I loved the idea of what happened to Oswin too, another call back, this time to the Sylvester McCoy era. Sometimes when you turn a human into a Dalek: It just doesn't take. Next episode brings us Lestrade (Yes!), Regus/ Arthur Weasley (Yes!) and Filch as well. Should be fun

I enjoyed this episode. I'd say on a scale of Daleks In Manhattan to Dalek this is much closer to the latter end of the spectrum for New Series Dalek episodes. It is on the level of Dalek but not as good because I have to admit there was wasted potential.

Asylum, best Dalek episode since Dalek, I agree. I hate the Daleks, but enjoyed this.
Jenna had better have a character like Oswin, now that we've been spoiled with her.
Dinosaurs, pretty good. Lestrade and Walder Frey? Yes.

Okay, I have a feeling that the American's among us won't know that the robots were voiced by David Mitchell & Robert Webb. They're very funny and you should totally check them out. They also did the UK versions of the "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" adverts. Moving on: Dinosaurs On A Spaceship was great, aside from Mitchell and Webb we've got Rupert Graves (DI Greg Lestrade), David Bradley (Filch from Harry Potter (Walder Frey to Ren)) and Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley from Harry Potter, or as I know him the exterminator from The Borrowers and Regus "The Vampire Recorder" from Being Human) so casting points get props there. Nefertiti disappearing with Riddell is actually pretty good since she vanished from Egyptian records. Riddell himself was fantastic, he got all the best lines in that episode. Rory however got the best expressions from the facepalm when Brian says the only thing in his trousers are "His balls" to the look of utter shock and confusion after Eleven snogs him. I'm starting to notice Arthur Darvill has the best movements and body language from the core three (Amy, Rory and The Doctor) I loved the bit at the end with Brian seeing the Earth from space and deciding to have a look around the whole wide world. Another bit at the end, a really subtle one, with Riddell seeing Nefertiti with the dino-tranq-laser-thingamabob and just smiling. And then we get to the Doctor being a little ... darker. Not shouting, or yelling or doing that jaw clenched very slow speaking thing he does (did?) before. Just very casually delivering a One-Liner that Six would envy and then killing Solomon off ... with missiles. It was awesome :3

If you haven't watched A Town Called Mercy yet then do so soon because it is the best episode this series (Alright so there's just been three but I mean it!).
The whole idea of morals, mercy, right and wrong and not killing people was worked into the story really well, I didn't feel like it was forced in or anything. It was especially poignant after last episode we had Eleven killing Solomon rather brutally.
I loved the end bit, where the Gunslinger becomes the marshal (Sort of) of Mercy. And when Jex decides to take his own life and stop the Gunslinger's rampage, it was nice from a "Redemption" view. The running around with tattoo's/ markings was interesting too. Do all of their species have a unique marking down the left of their face? I want to know more about them now since it's like the first thing that The Gunslinger picked up on before noticing they didn't match.
The whole episode's inspiration was interesting, like I said I saw nods to Red Dwarf (Not being able to leave the city or you die being a nod to Gunmen Of The Apocalypse and the Gunslinger himself looked like the Simulant Convict from Justice). Plus you have his HUD being akin to Terminator's and of course Doctor Jex having a similar name and a tattoo down his face as did Dadzia Jax from Star Trek DS9.
... Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

I really enjoyed it. Didn't think I would.
Towards the end I'm thinking, "Wow, the Doctor just screwed up history." Then you see that the Gunslinger isn't an actual sheriff, and that made things better.
But I loved the Doctor here, how he decided to kill Jex and stuff, and Amy calling him on how he's changing when he's not with people, that whole thing with life and death, as you pointed out Cross. Redemption, mercy, everything. Outstanding episode.

So, apparently it's Clara, not Oswin.

Double Post! So, me and some friends are going to be doing a webseries for DW's 50th anniversary and as a result I've been watching some classic Who. I've watched An Unearthly Child and The Daleks and it's strange to see how much the character of The Doctor has developed over time. In both of the original stories he's very scathing, very bossy and doesn't really "bond" with his companions like ten and eleven do. However it is very serialised so that's justified. I've got Edge Of Destruction to watch next which is apparently the first one where he realises how much of a d*ck he is. I've also seen the two surviving episodes of The Faceless Ones, which I think exists purely to show how adorkable Jamie is. I do prefer The Second Doctor certainly to the First and maybe even Fourth Doctors. My friend gave me The Invasion for Christmas and I can't wait to watch it Speaking of Christmas I thought that The Snowmen was great, the aforementioned friend doesn't like how they screwed up The Great Intelligence but as a New Who fan I don't really care xD. The best bit about it was probably the humour though, especially Strax, Dan Starkey's delivery of "Silence ... Giiiiiirl," was great. My LGBT friends were having a few squees at "I am the lizard woman from the dawn of time and this is my wife,". So glad that Paternoster come back for an episode. And oh my God! Coleman and Smith have wonderful chemistry together, they're very sharp and quick, it's fantastic. I wonder how much of it is the writing and how much is them. Anyway, I have a pile of DVD's next to me and my list is something like this: An Unearthly Child
The Daleks
- Edge Of Destruction
- The Invasion
- Inferno
- The Ark In Space
- Genesis Of The Daleks
- Destiny Of The Daleks
- City Of Death
- Black Orchid
- The Movie

There's actually a kind of archive of old DW episodes on Netflix. I've watched a few but not anymore. It has ALOT of old episodes. I think it's 1-6Doctor's on it except the movie seventh which isn't on Netflix

I have the best girlfriend ever, she got me a bowtie and a copy of Doctor Who and the Loch Ness Monster (The novel version of Terror Of The Zygons) for my birthday :3Ahem, moving on! Has anyone heard of this: An Adventure In Space And Time is a docudrama starring David Bradley (Solomon from Dinosaurs On A Spaceship) as William Hartnell and also featuring Call The Midwife's Jessica Raines as Verity Lambert. It looks awesome and I genuinely can't wait!
