Overview: Karen is an android who is trying her best to act like a normal human. She laughs inappropriately at what she believes to be jokes though she has no real sense of humor herself. She stares at a painting for hours on end, believing it to be what humans call television. She doesn't really need to eat, but will to keep up the facade (though sometimes she'll exactly wax fruit believing it to be real fruit).
She has come to value life over anything else and will do anything to protect it (even if its just an insignificant insect). Though still developing a moral code of her own, she has come to an understanding that the laws are there to protect people and has joined Interpol to uphold them.

History
In a secret laboratory underneath London, a robot was created by the evil think tank The Collective, based upon the designs of the late Gill Ishinomori, as the ultimate weapon. The robots' creator, a miniature man known as Professor Gear, planned on mass producing the "Project K" robot to be used in his plan for total world domination.
The Project K proved to be ineffective as a solider as its combat ready mode had both a very short time limit and extremely long recharge period. Gear planned on scrapping it then and there, but one of his underlings convinced him it could be used for espionage and assassination.
The robot was covered in liquidized nanobots that formed human-like skin over top it giving it the appearance of a human girl. It's first mission, though, proved to be a disaster - for The Collective. What was believed to be a malfunction its programming and software was K first developing a sense of humanity.
She was on her first mission assassination when she encountered a strange man in-route. She considered just killing him and moving on, but something about the man piqued her developing curiosity. The man was a pacifist who somehow convinced K that killing was wrong and that everybody (even her) deserved a chance at life.
She really took that lesson to heart when she refused to kill her assigned target. Professor Gear ordered her to be decommissioned immediately, but she managed to escape from the facility with help from a mysterious man in a mask calling himself "Harmony."
She eventually took on the name "Karen Marlowe" and joined Interpol as a detective.
