"You're a person, not a weapon," she told him.

"Eh, sometimes the line kinda blurs for me." He said, still in a melancholy voice, grasping his side in pain. "And at times like this, I feel...useless. Like a shattered sword."

"You're not useless," she told him, "Nobody is ever useless."

Kakeru sighed again. He knew she was right, but he couldn't help but let his pride get the better of himself. "Right. I'm about as useful as a race horse with two broken legs." He said, laughing cynically at himself with his hand placed on his face.

Kakeru sighed, noticing that he felt just good enough to stand. So, he turned himself, trying to get up again, this time more successfully, and walking over to a window. "I...need to live. I need to find some way to leave my mark on this world."

"I wish I could. But this is all I know. I need a place to start." He sighed, barely keeping himself stable with his hand against the wall. "Perhaps you could assist me...by sharing dinner with me? My treat, of course."

"Oh, um...," she wasn't sure what to make of his offer. She didn't want to hurt his feelings, but she wasn't sure if accepting that was a good idea, "Can I get back to you on that?"

Kakeru chuckled, still a bit shaky. "Right. Whenever you decide, give me a call, alright? My number's on my card, there should be a few in my jacket pocket over there."

"I'll be sure to do it," she said, getting up to get a card.

Kakeru stood in the same place, gazing out the window. In truth, it was a bad idea for him to get up, as he was barely able to keep himself standing, holding onto the windowsill for support.
