Marie was walking back to her work from lunch. It seemed like a nice, sunny day outside, but she still had the Desirer in her pocket, in case something attacked, which happened shockingly often in this town. Nearby, a man waited. This man didn't know it, but he was what was colloquially called in the magical community a "Gate". And he was directly in the crosshairs of a Phantom, currently in human guise.

Tess had no idea of this, but could probably take a guess if she really wanted to. She just didn't want to extend her influence out and feel for anything. Why should she? Waste of time, that's what that was.

Marie just felt like this was not going to be a fun day for her.
The Phantom began to move closer to the Gate, beginning to contemplate changing form. The Gate continued waiting obliviously.

Tess still didn't realize anything was going on as she passed the Gate.

The Phantom changed into it's monster form, starting a stampede that included the Gate. "Of course." Marie muttered, making a detour into an alley to transform.

Tess saw it now and cursed.
"Great...I have to deal with this, don't I?" she muttered, putting her hand to her waist and forming her belt with some magic. She slid her ring on and transformed, casting her hand aside. The water magic washed over her, sending her coattails out like a wave as she formed magic into her hand, letting loose a blast of water for the Phantom.

It blocked with a wing and shot some kind of magical missile at Tess, before turning and trying to chase after the Gate.

"Great," she muttered, throwing a blast of water for it.

It blocked again, and turned it's full attention to Tess, charging for her.

"Oh damn it!" she shouted, running away.

It kept going, but a loud, repeated clicking coming from behind it got it's attention. It turned to see what was making the noise.

Tess also stopped and looked back.

Marie had transformed, and loved how the commanding click of her heels grabbed the attention of all present. It made her feel important.
The Phantom was somewhat dumbfounded, staring at the new arrival.

Tess didn't waste time. She swung both arms in front of her, making a large ring of water with magic flowing through it. The water slammed together, creating a pillar of water which shot for the Phantom.

The pillar caught the Phantom completely off guard, sending it flying straight for Marie. She barely managed to dodge the beast before it hurtled past her.
