"After training in the mountains of so long," said Ran walking down the street, "It's nice to get away for a while."
She stopped in her tracks when she noticed a hazard ahead.
"Cracks in the sidewalk," she remarked, "I must be careful."
She then proceeded slowly on her tip toes, stepping over one crack and then another - while other people eyed her funny as they passed.

Sakuta was still gone; still lost to her. That dark power still had its control over his heart, and she didn't know what to do.
Aya was among the people noticing Ran's odd movements, but didn't pay much heed.

"Phew," Ran wiped her forehead when she was sure she had made it safely across, "My mother's back is safe."
She noticed the people staring at her and glared, "What are you looking at?"
Many of them stopped and went back to their normal routine. She grinned, being a former delinquent had its advantages.

"Superstitious?" Aya asked as she walked by.

Ran crossed her arms and simply answered, "I don't want any misfortune screwing with my life. If that makes me weird then so be it."

Ran nodded before reaching into her shirt and pulling out a small object.
She handed it to Aya, "Here, a good luck charm for your understanding."

She looked at it, "What is it?"

"An acorn," she answered, "In Norse folklore, they're considered very lucky."

She nodded, "Placing one on a windowsill is also said to ward off lightning."

"I don't see how that one makes sense," she said. Granted, the entire idea of a good luck charm was off, but that one made much less sense to her.

She shrugged, "My room has never been struck by lightning before so it's either working perfectly or merely a coincidence."

"Sounds more coincidental. I never used one, and my home was never struck."

"I've gotta agree with the skeptic." a voice called from above, sitting on a branch looking down at the pair was Leo. "Can I get one and stand in an open field during a lightening storm?" he asked shrugging.
