History
An ill omen heralded Tristan's birth: he was born on April Fool's Day in Ontario. His life was very normal for a time. As normal as having a father who was secretly a wizard can be. His father's little secret kept the family safe for a while, as long as they knew nothing about it. That is, until Tristan discovered his father conducting magical experiments in their basement when he was 15. In exchange for keeping the secret, Tristan was taken as his father's apprentice.
Their home was attacked on Walpurgis Night by a group of cultist wizards who sought the power of the magical Rings his father used. Tristan fought them alongside his father, and they drove the dark wizards out, at the cost of half their house blowing up and revealing the secret to his mother. Tristan was forced to leave home and travel south to Vegas, where he set himself up in a large-scale casino.

The entire casino, or at least the area around the poker table, had gone completely quiet. Everyone was watching the two men in suits stare down each other. Each one had a hand of cards raised, and were throwing poker chips into the middle of the table. Both men's poker faces were absolutely solid. It was incredibly difficult to tell what they were feeling. Or, it would be, if Tristan Gallant wasn't wearing a great big smirk.
"Gentlemen, show your hands." the dealer said. Tristan lowered his hand, but didn't reveal it. Instead, he rubbed the back of his hand. Anyone who looked closely would swear they saw the ring on his left hand glow a little. Then they revealed their hands. The other man had two pairs. Tristan had a straight flush. There were gasps of surprise and applause from all around the room as Tristan scraped the chips into his hands.
