Shot in the Dark [OPEN]

[John Jones]

Undercover work. At best, it was almost undetected. At worst, innocent bystanders could see you coming from a mile away. No amount of getting into character or learning your role could prepare a certain detective for what he was going to go through.

Red Hearts University was one of the most prestigious universities in the country. Every one was of its students was an academic genius, or so it seemed on the outside. Recently, the police uncovered a couple of bodies that belonged to a pair of scientists, attending an event held at the university. At the police's insistence, an extra "guest speaker" was added to the list of attending speakers.

This speaker wasn't arriving by limousine or anything fancy. Just a normal car. He avoided all the main entrances, going round the back instead. All he needed to do was go through his undercover persona one last time before he needed to go on and talk.

Cassie stood in the entrance hall of Red Hearts. She supposedly had an interview to transfer over. But the guy was an hour late. If this were any other school then Cassie would have left 45 minutes ago but this is, next to NYADA, the best theater school close. So Cassie had to play the waiting game. While the Lycan Knuckle was in her pocket she felt naked without Aotsuki.

[John Jones]

"Ladies and gentlemen," a voice issued from the main hall. "I would now like to present our guest speaker for this evening, and I hope you will join me in giving a warm welcome to Dr Milton Fine." The applause in the hall rose, and John Jones, dressed in a full tuxedo, stepped out to greet the crowd.

"Thank you." he said, and the applause died down. "Now, why are we here? Ah yes, biomechanics is the future. That's the topic of our little meeting here tonight, is it not? Well, let's begin."

Cassie watched as people filed into the main hall, initially not caring. After a few minutes she sighed. He's not coming. Whats going on in the hall? Cassie then turned and boredly walked towards it.

[John Jones]

"It's how they are able to continuously refuel themselves, even when they're on standby." John continued. Not even he was sure whether he was making it up or not.

To the side of the hall, a gun went off, and a single person fell to the ground. Panic ensued immediately, and people started gushing towards the entrance. That was the opposite of what John expected to happen.

[Control]

The second Cassie heard a gunshot, she instantly grabbed the Lycan Knuckle. With her henshin device in hand, she ran towards the shot. Cassie was at least glad that tonight wouldn't be a waste.

[John Jones]

The hall had completely cleared, save for John, Cassie, and the body. John left the podium and crouched down beside the body.

[Control]

"What happened" Cassie asked, Knuckle at the ready.

[John Jones]

"He was shot. Obviously." John said, examing the body's wounds. "A single bullet. Clean in and out."

[Control]

"Any idea who did it or why?" Cassie asked. She slipped her fingers into the hand hold of the knuckle, in case she needed a weapon. She looked at John and extended her other hand. "Cassie."

[John Jones]

"John Jones." John didn't return the handshake. Instead, he turned over the body and examined the floor. "The bullet impacted here."

[Control]

Cassie nodded when the wound was pointed at.

[John Jones]

"Then the shot must have come from..." John whipped out the Morphin Blaster and tapped a couple of buttons.

[Control]

"You know something then" Cassie said, slapping the Lycan Belt around her waist just in case.

[John Jones]

"Of course I do. I'm a detective."
