She nodded, "I wouldn't have expected that," she commented.

Kakeru snickered a little. "Most don't. I don't exactly look the part. I was made very aware of that growing up. But it does come to my advantage at times."

"How so?" she asked him.

"Well, it kickstarted my multi-lingual skill, and it's always good for passing along secret messages. Well, that, and for swearing at someone without them knowing." He laughed.

She smiled and laughed a little, "That's not what I expected."

Kakeru chuckled again, giving her a questioning look. "Oho? And what, pray tell, were you expecting?" He asked, sipping his drink again, nearing the bottom.

"Honestly, I don't know," she said, "Just not that."

"Well, it helps with my job, too. I have to travel a lot, so knowing a few languages is a real boon. And having a massive database to call on for info doesn't hurt much either." He laughed, swapping his now-empty cup for a frozen coffee beverage.

"I imagine the language thing is a plus, and probably a requirement," she said.

"You'd think so, but half of the guys in Epsilon barely speak English, and most of my subordinates are mono-lingual. It really all depends on what you do. I'm a top-level field agent, so I have to handle a lot of diplomatic matters and business in addition to monster butt-whooping. Kind of a pain, but it's part of the job." He explained, sipping from his drink every so often.

She gave him a nod, "Well, let me rephrase. I imagine any field agents," well, that was strange to say, "would be versed in a number of languages."

He chuckled lightly, remarking with a quip. "Then let me rephrase. It's not a requirement. A bonus, but far from necessary. Most field agents are dispatched based on individual skill and knowledge, so they wouldn't deploy you somewhere that you didn't speak the language."

"I'd have thought it would make most sense otherwise, so they can go anywhere."

Kakeru laughed a bit loudly, pulling out his phone. "That's why they've got me. I usually have to act as translator. When I'm not around, they give agents a special translator app for their phones, with an earpiece to accommodate the instant translations." He switched on his translator app, and set it to Mandarin, handing the phone to her. "Talk into it like you would for speakerphone."

"I'll take your word for it," she said.
