This was getting harder to not listen to. She started listening in.

Kuro sighed, giving his remark. "That's something I could never understand about you Italians. As soon as a pretty girl is involved, you lose any ability to say no." Kakeru chuckled a little, remarking with a quip of his own. "Aye, that's how chivalry works, Kuro. And I dunno about other places, but Italians are pretty big on the concept. Besides, we could use all the help we can get. "They" aren't going to go easy on us when we're understaffed."

Kakeru heard her, and quickly spoke. "Kuro, gonna have to get back to you." He hung up the phone, and turned back to Noa. "Sorry, that was the boss. Apparently, I've got time off." He tried to avoid the latter half of his conversation quite abruptly.

She smiled a bit, "Well, that sounds good."

Kakeru grinned. "Yeah, finally got some downtime. At least until some big beastie tries to blow up Big Ben, or something."

Kakeru chuckled, and then sighed. "Yeah, hopefully it lasts. Well, now I don't really need to finish the rest of those drinks."

Kakeru laughed. "I wouldn't expect you to. I've got a standing deal with the barista here. Whatever coffees I don't drink, he'll take off my hands, as long as I haven't taken a sip from them."

"Well, that's a good deal, I guess, for someone in your case."

"Yeah. It helps that the barista is more of a caffeine addict than I am by far."

"I find it hard to believe that someone can be more."

"Oh trust me, I didn't believe it either, until I saw him down three pots in fifteen minutes. Three pots of espresso, no less. The man's a monster." He laughed, haven gotten into a more relaxed and jovial mood.

"Wow, that's incredible...and rather disturbing to think about," she said.
