Kakeru shrugged, switching the phone back to standby and sliding it into his pocket, finishing his coffee and again switching to another hot drink.

"Yeah, that's painful to watch you go through," she commented.

Kakeru laughed. "Not quite as painful as taking a sledgehammer to the face because I nodded off. Or a cannonball to the gut. But this is only temporary, anyway. They only have me like this for a week or so every few months, when something major is developed and needs extensive testing."

"Are those actual problems you might run into?" she asked.

"Not often. In my case, it's just because I've got a better constitution than a majority of our agents currently, and more experience, so they have me test the tech." He raised a hand to start counting off something on his fingers. "About...twelve times this week, I've been hit with explosives."

"Well, sounds like you're lucky to be alive. Or skilled," she said.

Kakeru chuckled, with a playful grin. "I've got some skills, but lucky's my middle name. Literally." He laughed a bit louder, making an attempt to stifle it.

She let out a laugh, not sure if she should believe that or not.

Kakeru chuckled. "Okay, only half-literally. It's actually Fortunato, but same thing." He finished off his drink, and as he reached for the next, his phone started going off, a fast guitar riff playing.

Kakeru sighed, pulling out his phone. "Sorry, I gotta get this. It's Kuro's tone, so it's probably work related. I swear, if they need me to test it again, I'm telling him to shove it." He stood up, excusing himself before walking a few feet away.

Kakeru answered the phone with a very light sigh. "Oi, Kuro. What's going? I'm kind of preoccupied." He said, a bit of annoyance clear in his voice. Kurotsu responded, in a somewhat cheerful tone. "Just wanted to let you know that the testing's done, and you've got a week off for dealing with it. Paid." Kakeru stood there for a moment, silent. "Oh...Cool. Good to hear. Well, I'll probably be in later to pick up some materials. Oh, and I've got someone with me who's a definite interest. I'm planning to arrange a tour of our facilities." He explained, keeping his voice down a bit.

She tried not to listen, leaving him to his privacy.

Kuro responded, sounding a bit annoyed now. "Hey, don't go bringing civvies in here all willy nilly. And lemme guess, it's a lady, right? Don't use our facility as a damn pickup." Kakeru, not missing a beat, retorted sharply. "Don't go jumping to conclusion, bucko. She's a Rider, and if she decides to join, she could be a vital asset."
